What We Did

Students attended their portfolio evaluation

The Final Essay and the Final Exam

Complete the final draft for the last essay. It is due by 2 p.m. on Wednesday, December 3. Bring it to my office [3-255].

In addition, take the final exam, which will be available in WebCT until 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, December 10. Log into WebCT and click on Assessments on the left to take the exam. Refer to any handout, essay, set of lecture notes, etc. that you need to answer the 50 questions.

Complete your outline and rough draft for the last essay. They are both due by 2 p.m. on Monday, December 1. Bring them to my office [3-255].

In addition, prepare for the portfolio evaluation. All appointments will be in my office [3-255]. Come on time if you want credit for the notebook!

What We Did

We began work on the last essay.

Finish the comparison/contrast essay.

Take the sixth [optional] reading quiz for Curious Incident, which will be available in WebCT until Monday, November 24. Log into WebCT and click on Assessments on the left to take the quiz.

Prepare for your comma splice/fused sentence quiz, which we will take in class on Monday, November 24. Try the optional practice quiz available in WebCT. You must score 80 percent or higher to receive 5 bonus points.

For those of you in pursuit of bonus points, finish Curious Incident. The last quiz will be on Monday, November 24.

What We Did

We continued our discussion of the comparison/contrast essay, discussing the works cited page and quotations/citations. We also finished the comma splice/fused sentence lecture.

Create your works cited page for the comparison/contrast essay. Follow this sample.

In addition, work in the required three quotations/citations into your draft.

Then, complete these five exercises on comma splices/fused sentences. Keep track of your answers on this sheet.

Class Meeting 10

What We Did

We continued our discussion of comparison/contrast, watching an excerpt from the Disney version of Cinderella and Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. We discussed the similarities and differences between the movies and the original versions of the stories. Students took their pronoun reference quizzes.

Homework for the Next Class

Write your comparison/contrast outline and rough draft. Bring this work and a printout of the story/poem you will use in your essay to class next Monday.

In addition, start pages 126 - 158 of Curious Incident. The fifth 5-minute, 10-item quiz will be on Monday, November 3.
