We discussed writing the works cited page for the hero cycle documented essay. Students drafted some of their entries.

Compose your introductory paragraph and works cited page. The works cited page must include an entry for every work you used in the academic paragraphs/hero cycle exam. You will have a minimum of seven entries; some of you will have more.

Each error on the works cited page will cost 3 points of your 100-point grade, so be careful about capitalization, punctuation, page format, etc.

Visit the West Campus Library's helpful documentation site if you have a source that we did not discuss in class.

Remember that we will meet in 6-118 on Tuesday.

We finished our viewing of Cast Away. We reviewed the type of short essay students must write for their hero cycle exam. Then students began the readings portion of the test.

Because of College Night, we do not meet on Thursday, October 8.

We will write the movie portion of the hero cycle exam on Tuesday, October 13. To prepare, be sure that you understand the seventeen stages of the adventure and can apply those stages to Cast Away.

Remember that we do not meet as a group on October 1. Complete the bonus point assignment by 5 p.m. to earn your bonus points.

To prepare for the upcoming exam, be sure that you understand the seventeen stages of the adventure and can apply those stages to the readings and movie. We will write the first part [readings only] of the exam on Tuesday, October 6.

Bonus Points!

To earn 25 bonus points, write a fifth [optional] academic paragraph. You have two options: 1) select a song of your choice, determine which stage(s) of the hero cycle the song demonstrates, and build a paragraph similar to the one that you wrote for "You Can Sleep While I Drive," or 2) select a movie of your choice and discuss how it meets departure, initiation, and return. If you go with the second option, I am not looking for you to find all seventeen changes; just show me how the hero leaves, learns, and returns home a better person.

Send an e-copy via Atlas email and turn in a hard copy to 5-231 by 5 p.m., Thursday, October 1.
